Mr. Robert Andrew Wilson, 78, of Tega Cay, SC, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Originally from Tarrytown, NY, he was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Mr. Wilson graduated from American University where he was on the swim team and participated in fencing. He took an advanced degree from N. C. State University.
Starting out as a teacher, he was also a administrative support person with Gaston County Schools and Director of Evening Studies at Randolph Technical Institute in Asheboro, NC. Later he was in sales and had his own business.
From 1967 until his death, he embraced the life of being a “transplanted yankee” becoming a southern gentleman, although he never quite lost the New York accent or the rapid speech.
He particularly liked being on the water, and sailed his small sloop single handed year-round at Lake Norman. He also served for five years as part of the volunteer crew for North Carolin’s historic sailing ship, Elizabeth II, which is berthed at Manteo, NC.
Other interest included travel, classical music and reading non-fiction, especially history. While he was able, he attended many music and drama events at Winthrop University.
He is survived by his wife of fifty plus years, Martha Hill Wilson.
