Mr. Robert Howard Hormberg (Bob) of Lake Wylie, SC passed away September 30, 2025. Bob grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Georgia Tech where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Afterward he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He began his career as plant engineer for Misceramic Tile in Cleveland, MS. He and Peggy moved to Charlotte, NC in 1968 where he owned a manufacturer’s representative agency serving the chemical process industry.
He was a long-time member at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, Deacon and Elder.
He spent many years volunteering with Boy Scout Troop 99 at Selwyn, going on camping trips, serving on committees and mentoring youth. He was the proud father of 2 Eagle Scouts and grandfather of a third. Bob served several terms on the Board at Alexander Youth Network and was a volunteer at Clover Area Assistance Center.
He spent over 40 years volunteering for Habitat for Humanity helping those he didn’t know become home owners. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. His passion was woodworking and he spent much of his retirement building furniture, cabinets, canes and other wooden creations he enjoyed sharing. He was generous with his talents and his treasure. He was always willing to help individuals and organizations with projects and repairs.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert E. and Lucy Hormberg, his niece Christy Kiebler, his nephew Jay Colquitt, and his sisters-in-law Patsy Colquitt and Linda Ruddy. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years Peggy, son Bo & wife Susan, son Brad & husband Alex, granddaughter Rachel Bouldin (Jacob), grandson Drew Hormberg, great grandson Henry Bouldin, nieces Rhonda Long (Don), Janet Colquitt (Virgil Rowe), Sharon See, and nephew Jack Kime
Services will be at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church Monday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
