Mr. Ronald W. Montgomery, Sr., of York, SC, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.
Mr. Montgomery was a self-made man who valued hard work, determination, and lifelong learning. Through reading and teaching himself various skills, he developed a passion for dock building. He eventually founded Dock Masters Marine Construction and Supply, which he owned and operated alongside his devoted wife. His work later expanded into real estate and land development, reflecting his strong drive and entrepreneurial spirit.
A man of deep faith, Mr. Montgomery was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he faithfully served and was honored as Deacon Emeritus. He was known for his generosity and giving spirit, often preparing meals for the community during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Alongside his wife, Wanda, he hosted many church gatherings at their lake house. He continually poured his heart and effort into serving his church and lived his life putting God first, followed by his family and church community.
Above all, Mr. Montgomery cherished time with family and friends. He was always seen laughing, storytelling, cooking, and playing lighthearted pranks. He loved spending time outdoors: on the water, at the beach, metal detecting, and hunting for shark teeth. He also enjoyed antiquing, collecting arrowheads, Catawba pottery, and glass soda bottles. He had a passion for diving, especially in the Cooper River, and even became a diving instructor.
At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Wanda. They shared a lifelong love story, starting when they met in high school and later marrying in 1989. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, love, and family. With Wanda by his side, Ron overcame three different cancers. Their love demonstrates remarkable strength and resilience.
He will be remembered as a beloved patriarch, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, unwavering love, and cherished memories.
Mr. Montgomery was born March 21, 1949, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He is preceded by his parents, Grady and Edna Joyner Montgomery, his grandson, T.W. Montgomery, and his son-in-law, Mark Puryear.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Wanda Cobb Montgomery; his daughters Karen F. Puryear Clover, SC, Kimberly M. Daniels (Steve) Blackstock, SC, Kristen F. Mullinax (James) Clover, SC; his sons, Ronald W. Montgomery, Jr. (Tonya) York, SC, and Christopher Montgomery (Angela), York, SC; his brothers, Thomas L. Montgomery York, SC, and Grady L.
