Ronald Pushee Obituary

Ronald Harris Pushee

May 1, 1943 – November 16, 2020

Ronald Pushee, of York, SC, was born on May 1, 1943 in Lyme, NH, and passed away on November 16,  2020 after a lengthy illness.  Ronald was the eldest son of the late Harris C. and Louise (Miles) Pushee.  Growing up, Ronald was active in the Boy Scouts, attained the rank of Life Scout and attended a National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA.  He attended Hanover (NH) High School, earned his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNH, and later a Masters Degree from Union College in Schenectady, NY.  Ronald started his lifelong career with General Electric as an apprentice in Seabrook, NH, and later transitioned to computer technology, spending many years of his career with General Electric Informational Services in Schenectady and Albany, NY.  Ron retired in 1998 after serving as an IT/Computer Security Manager at the Kesselring Atomic Power labs in West Milton, NY.

Ronald was living in Galway, NY when he met and married his wife of 44 years, Linda (Megantz) Pushee, and they combined their families and added a fourth child, all raised on the Glad Menagerie Farm.  Ronald loved working the land, building the barns, maintaining a fleet of diesel VW’s, caring for the animals, plowing the gardens, trimming Christmas trees, and cutting the firewood that kept his family warm, fed, amused, and on the move year round.  Ronald also taught his family to enjoy all forms of outdoor recreation and loved to spend time with the family at camp in the Adirondacks.  The family of six (plus dogs) put many hundreds of miles on the lakes and rivers in the trusty faded blue Old Town canoe and hiking the trails in Bean Boots.  Ronald was an avid bicyclist, often riding 15+ miles (one way) each day to work, enjoying several long bicycle trips with his children and a bicycle tour of Nova Scotia with Linda.

Ronald was involved with all of his family’s endeavors, including swimming, hockey, music lessons, concerts and recitals, and towing trailers to fairs and shows with all manner of horses, goats, sheep, cows, and pigs.  He taught his four children the value of hard work and civic duty, as he balanced his day job with the farm work and still found time to volunteer in emergency services.  Ronald served as a Firefighter with the Harmony Corners Fire Department for 37 years, and also served as an EMT with the Galway Ambulance Service back in the days of plectrons, scanners, and phone lines that he wired to ring outside the house so he could work outside and still hear dispatch call for him to respond to help fellow citizens in need.

Ronald and Linda welcomed their first grandchild in 1998 and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.  After retirement Ronald and Linda lived in Frostproof (FL) for many years, and Ron volunteered for years as the Treasurer for the Hearing Loss Association of America in Lakeland (FL) and as an AARP tax preparer in Frostproof.  They traveled in their motor home across portions of the country several times and enjoyed visiting the national Parks, including one summer long RV trip through the southwest and up the Pacific Coast to northern Alaska.  They also spent several vacations in Puerto Rico, enjoying the sun and sand.

Ronald is survived by his wife Linda, of York, SC;   his daughter Ruth Pushee and her spouse Ellen Corcoran and their children Sarah, Christopher, and Jonathan of Scotia, NY;  his son James Pushee and wife Tamara and their children Meghan and Nathaniel of Greenville, NY;   his daughter Martha (Pushee) Gardner and her husband Jeff and their children Hollyann, Mae, Edy, Samuel, Donovan, and Colin of Efland, NC;  and his daughter Emma (Pushee) Walker and her husband Rodney and their children Abigail, Kaitlin, and William of York, SC.  Ronald is also survived by his brothers David Pushee (and family) of Plymouth, NH, and Wayne Pushee (and family) of Lyme, NH.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Wayne T. Patrick House at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC, for their care and comfort in Ronald’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ronald’s name to Hospice and Community Care at 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732,  or to Harmony Corners Volunteer Fire Department at 1945 Amsterdam Road, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
