Ms. Ruby Jean McDonald Strickland, 90, of Clover, SC, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, peacefully at home with loving family at her bedside.
Ms. Strickland was born August 18, 1935, in Dallas, WV to the late Wilbert Ross and Agnes Chedester McDonald. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert “Sonny” McDonald.
Survivors are her daughters Crystol Grimes of Haverhill, MA, Kimberly Bressler (Matt) of Clover, SC, her sister Regina Cain of Atlanta, GA; and brother Harold McDonald (Barbara) of Monroe NC. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Ruby will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the love she poured into everything she did. She had a natural flair for fashion and an extraordinary gift for bringing people together through food, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Ruby began her career at Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her eye for style and flair for fashion first took root. She spent many years working in the Strickland family’s auto parts business, contributing to its success.
In time, Ruby followed her passion and fulfilled a dream by opening her own dress shop, which she owned and operated successfully for several years. Her boutique reflected her personal sense of style and her desire to help others feel confident and beautiful.
Above all, Ruby was known for her love of family, cooking and hospitality. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and connection. She delighted in preparing large, delicious meals for family and friends, creating gatherings that will be cherished in memory for years to come.
Ruby’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and a life well lived. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at M. L. Ford & Sons, 209 N. Main Street, Clover, SC with Mr. Mark Gallowitch officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Lancaster Memorial Park, 2210 NC-561, Louisburg, NC 27549.
