Mrs. Shirley Moses Grayson, 87, of Clover, SC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC.
Shirley was born on February 5, 1939, in Clover, SC to the late Fred Mason Moses and Jean Carpenter Moses. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Moses and a sister Betty Jean Haney.
Shirley attended Clover High School where she cheered for the Blue Eagles, played varsity basketball, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also participated in multiple school plays and was the editor for the sports club paper. Shirley was a proud graduate of both Brevard College and Appalachian State University where she majored in Education and sang in the school choir.
A revered English and Typing teacher, Shirley taught at Villa Heights Middle School in Mecklenberg County, NC and then Clover Junior High School for forty-two years retiring in 2003. Shirley’s students loved her enthusiasm and commitment and would often stay in touch after leaving her tutelage, sending cards and letters sharing their continued education and career progress.
In September of 1962, Shirley married Ernest Grayson, a marriage of 63 years. They had been classmates in high school and reconnected upon his return from California when he concluded his service as a U.S. Marine.
Early in her marriage Shirley and Grayson enjoyed spending summers on Lake Norman on their boat the “Yancy G.” Shirley loved being outdoors regardless of whether it was playing tennis, gardening or push mowing her sizeable front yard. Her favorite way to spend the afternoon was front porch swinging with sweet tea in hand. In retirement Shirley also enjoyed taking Christian bus tours with her friends “the Go-Go girls” to multiple destinations in the U.S. but her favorite travel was always to the metro Atlanta area to visit her beloved grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband of 63 years, E. H. “Coach” Grayson; daughter Yancy G. Mykyten (Edward) of Milton, GA; grandchildren Olivia Anne, Nadia Noelle, and Madeline Grace; brother Billy Moses (Marie) of Clover, SC.
Shirley loved the Georgia Dawgs, her “Kitty Kitty” and especially her family. She will always be missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved her.
