Mrs. Shirley Ellen Brown Hobschaidt, 87, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, at home.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Gaston Memorial Park with the Rev. Doctor Ridgeway Addison and Rev. Justin Lowe officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Hobschaidt was born November 30, 1935, in Gastonia, NC, to the late Cecil and Mabel Gardner Brown.  She shared many of her natural gifts and exceptional talent and skills through her career world of interior sales and design.  First with Jones Furniture Company, followed by Craig’s Furniture, Gastonia, NC, for many years and finally joined M. L. Ford & Sons, Clover, SC.

Shirley was an active member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia, and also of First United Methodist Church, Gastonia.  She loved her family with her whole heart and found her greatest joy in spending time with them.  Especially her Great-Grands, who adored her equally.  She cherished the holidays as they gave her special occasion to make all things beautiful, inside and out, to prepare and serve her family’s favorite dishes, … to sit with, laugh with, to love and be surrounded by all who were important in her life.

Survivors are her sons Fred “Freddy” Ridgeway Jones, Jr. (Vicki) of Gastonia, NC and Timothy “Timmy” David Jones of Fort Mill, SC, and Kim Lawing Jones of Denver, NC; sister Linda Brown Addison (James) of Gastonia, NC; brother Jim Brown (Kay) of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren William Ridgeway Jones (Jamie) of Charlotte, NC; Amber Jones Gladden (Matt) of Oak Island, NC; Carlee Jones Sullivan (Brandon) of Stanley, NC; Elise McKenna Jones Brown (Dalton) of Denver, NC; James Hamilton Jones, II of Denver, NC;  and great grandchildren Lillian Kate Gladden, Grayson Matthew Gladden, Annabelle Banks Gladden, Brooks Lawson Gladden, and Jackson Parker Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. “Bill” Hobschaidt and a son, James Hamilton Jones.
