Mr. Stephen Edward Thomas, 83, of Clover, SC, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.

A Graveside service will be Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., in Woodside Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Clover, SC, with the Rev. Trent Thomas officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Mr. Thomas was born January 2, 1941, in York, SC, to the late Thaddeus Martin and Elizabeth Fewell Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rylie Grace Clinton, his sister, Betsy Johnson, and his brothers, Thaddeus Thomas, Jr., George Thomas, and Joseph Thomas.

He is survived by his daughters Laura Clinton (Brent) and Rebecca Amanda Thomas, Clover, SC; his grandchildren, Kaelin Clinton, Macie Clinton, and Bella Suchenski; Mary Thomas, his former wife; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thomas served in the United States Air Force where he trained to be a rear gunner.  After an honorable discharge from the military, he worked on the family farm as well as the bleachery in Rock Hill before attending Gaston College, where he received a degree in civil engineering.  He worked in the engineering department for Southern Railway. After sustaining an injury, he went back to school and obtained a degree in Industrial Arts from Georgia Southern University and taught Industrial Arts in Greenwood, SC and in Gaston County, NC.  Mr. Thomas also raised quail for several years.  He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture. 

Mr. Thomas enjoyed gardening, making furniture, fishing, history, and spending time with his family.
