April 16, 1945 ~ November 24, 2024 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Susan Shaw Obituary

Susan Simpson Shaw, 79, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024 in Lake Wylie, South Carolina.  Born April 16, 1945 in Marlinton, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Helen Faye Spitzer and John R. “Jack” Simpson.

She spent the majority of her life in Charlotte, North Carolina and Lake Wylie, South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her youngest son, William Blake Shaw.

Susan excelled at baton twirling at a young age, winning the 1959 N.C. Champion Drum Majorettes of America Junior Division award.  She, also, excelled in lighting design where she spent over 20 years with Independent Electric Supply in Charlotte.  Susan was a frequent attendee at Lynn’s in Charlotte where she loved dancing.  Her Red Hat friends were dear to her.  She was a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. Susan often attended River Hills Community Church in Lake Wylie, SC. Her large deep hugs will be missed by everyone that knew Susan.

Survived by her sons Lawrence M. Shaw, Jr (Karen) of Charlotte, North Carolina and John P. Shaw (Wanda) of Lake Wylie, Clover, South Carolina, granddaughters Avery Shaw Rogers (Patrick) and Julia E. Shaw (Selden) both of Charlotte, North Carolina, her sister, Cynthia S. Hattersley and niece, Patricia Pettingill (Michael) both of Statesville, North Carolina and many dear cousins.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Kim Morrill, and Janell Shafer who provided much appreciated special care and attention in the last few years.

Susan will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held next Spring.
