Tibb Burnett Obituary

Mr. Tibb Burnett, 93 of York, SC, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Carolina Gardens, York, SC.

Mr. Burnett was born October 31, 1929 in Knox County, TX to the late Glenn T. and Margaret Campbell Burnett.

Survivors are his son, Erin “Jesse” Burnett of York, SC; daughter Dr. Valerie Alicia Burnett of Irmo, SC; step daughter Mari Eldridge of Floresville, TX; sister Joardis Burnett Davis of Santa Fe; grandchildren Phillip Burrows, Jessica Burnett, Jacob Burnett, Ron Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, Erin Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Christie Edwards; niece Kira Kosove of Los Angeles, CA; nephews Bill Goodrich of Dallas, TX, Ron Grost of Ft Worth, TX, and David Grost of Lafayette, LA; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Georgeann Burnett and sister, Linda Grost.

Tibb was a poet and a writer known for his western theme poetry and novels and short stories.  He was a popular performer at rodeos and cowboy reunion events around the Southwest where he performed poetry readings and played the harmonica.  Early in his career he was a ballet and modern dancer where he trained at the Chicago School of the Arts, and performed with several dance companies based out of Chicago and New York. He was a modern dance teacher at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.  He loved his family and friends and fellow performers for whom he had a great appreciation.  He was also proud of his ranch heritage and families associated with the Burnett Ranch and his late great uncle Burk Burnett founder of the 6666 Ranch.
