Obituary

Mr. William “Bill” Joseph Madden of Clover, SC, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at Atrium Health, Pineville, NC after a brief illness.

Bill was born February 8, 1943, in North Brookfield, MA to the late William “Red” James and Bertha Revane Madden.  He grew up in Chatham, MA (Chatham High School class of 1961).  After graduating from Northeastern University, he headed to New York City, where he landed in TV sports broadcasting.  Over a long career that took him all over, he produced or directed broadcasts of college basketball, major league baseball, golf, and all types of motor sports.  After retirement, he settled in Lake Wylie, SC with the love of his life, Ellen Gillis, and doted on his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Ellen. Survivors are his son Raymond Madden (Stacey) and grandchildren Darby Madden and Kolbe Madden of Winter Park, FL; brother Michael Madden (Linda) of Edmonds, WA; and nephew Connor Madden of Chicago.

At Bill’s request, there will be no formal service.  Instead, hoist one for Bill.
