Leslie "Cisco" Stewart

Leslie Burns Stewart, 81 of 1199 Lester Road, Clover, went home to the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at home.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Stanford officiating.  Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Clover.

Mr. Stewart was born February 24, 1934 in Cherokee Co., NC to the late Charles Simpson and Martha Pittman Stewart.  He was a York High School graduate.  It was there he earned the nickname “Cisco” while playing football for the York Green Dragons.  He was a Korean War Veteran and served in the SC National Guard for 42 years retiring as a Sergeant Major.  Mr. Stewart was instrumental in starting Pee Wee football in Clover.  He coached for 2 years when Clover only had one team, which played other towns.  After those 2 years, Clover expanded to 4 teams with interleague playing, where he coached the Bethany Bulldogs for many years.

Cisco was a long time member of Midway Baptist and First Baptist of Clover, Past Master of Masonic Alpine Lodge 208 and a member of Omar Shrine, Charleston, SC.  Mr. Stewart owned and operated Stewart’s Sales & Service for 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lou Ellen Douglas Stewart.

Survivors are his sons Dr. Leslie D. Stewart (Genie) of Jackson, TN and Kevin Stewart (Gale) of Clover, SC; grandchildren Hillary Evans (Tommy), Jamison Stewart, Jessica Jabbar (Roohan) and Timothy Stewart.
