Dr. Bruce Carleton Elliott, 84 of Clover, SC passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville, Charlotte, NC.

Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Clover Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglass Key officiating.  Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday night at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Clover.

Dr. Elliott was born July 16, 1932 in Rimini, SC to the late Richard Furman and Lorena Britton Elliott. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1956. After an internship at St. Louis City Hospital he moved to Clover, South Carolina, where he began his general medical practice at the age of 25.  Later he was board-certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Elliott is remembered by many for his 57-year medical practice. In his early years of practice Dr. Elliott made house calls, took care of hospital patients, and delivered a generation of Clover babies. But many in Clover also remember him for his service to the community. In 1973 he revived Boy Scout Troop 37 and served as scoutmaster for twelve years, a period in which a large number of scouts earned the Eagle, including his three sons. He was a devoted member of the Clover Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as an Elder. He did medical missionary work in Guatemala, China and Anguilla.

Survivors are his wife Mildred Glass Elliott; sons Bruce Carleton Elliott, Jr., MD PhD (Ina) of Minneapolis, MN, Harold Walker Elliott, MD (Lisa) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Thomas Britton Elliott (Kari) of Ottawa, Canada; sister Sara E. Somerville (John) of Savannah, GA; brothers Rev. Richard Furman Elliott (Garnett) of Greenville, SC and Louis T. “Sam” Elliott (Sandra) of Pinewood, SC; and ten grandchildren. Dr. Elliott was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Josephine “Betty” Elliott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clover Presbyterian Church, 202 Kings Mountain Street, Clover, SC 29710.
